SE DE LISBOA

The enormous fortress-like cathedral built over centuries is planted on the front hillside of the Castle of São Jorge, a hubof Christianity that goes back to Roman history. This neighbourhood is where the Marques de Pombal began his urban planning in order to rebuild after the earthquake that hit Lisbon in 1755. It has some of the finest of this particular architecture which was named after him. Elegant streets and buildings with stunning river views and a sunny exposition characterise this neighbourhood which is a well-kept secret for residents who know the quality of life, despite the flow of tourists. It is walking distance across Baixa to Chiado, Liberdade and the Tejo riverside.
